Micah 6:8, "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
Act justly. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly.
Six words that the prophet Micah challenges his readers with. Six words that we see Jesus live by...
Act Justly. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly.
It can be difficult for us to live under the scope of these commands. It can be challenging to have relationships with RMG (requires more grace) people. And yet, these are the exact people that Jesus not only pursued, but challenged the Pharisees to pursue.
This past weekend, Bruce talked about mercy. He shared that, "Jesus didn't just say he would give sinners more time, more grace, and more love... he cancelled their debt completely."
Bruce then challenged us by saying we cannot show mercy towards others until we truly comprehend the mercy that we have been shown.
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good..."
Act justly. Love Mercy. Walk humbly.
Just as Christ shows us mercy for our countless sins and times of pride and selfishness, we are called to show others mercy. Not only for the people who deserve it in our eyes, but the people we believe are not worthy of our grace.
Ouch.
I wonder how often God shows us mercy and we don't even realize it. I wonder how often we refuse to show others mercy for their actions and God is broken because of it. God sent His son to die and show mercy for everyone; not just the people who deem themselves as righteous.
Who is the person in your life that you are struggling to show mercy towards? What is the sin or lifestyle or group of people that you avoid because they disgust you?
What if I told you that God is often disgusted by our actions, but still shows us mercy?
We challenge you to take these three next steps this week in order to prepare your heart for the message this Sunday:
Next Steps:
1) Connect with a person in your life that you have had trouble showing mercy towards. Invite them to coffee and start building a relationship with them.
2) Pray for our Propel Desert Vision Nights
3) Read John 3 prior to the teaching this Sunday
Join us Sunday at 9:00 and 10:30 to meet the Jesus that changes everything
