Do you believe?
A necessary question as we reach the halfway point of our series, "Revolution: Meet the Jesus that Changes Everything." So far, Jesus has shattered the expectations of who God pursues, shared a meal with tax collectors and sinners, called fishermen to be His disciples, claimed that there is something more powerful than the Temple here on earth, and ticked off the religious Pharisees in doing so.
So I must ask again... Do you believe?
Do you believe that Jesus is who He says He is? Do you believe that Jesus did share a meal with sinners? Do you believe that Jesus did call fishermen to be His disciples?
Do you believe that something greater than the temple is here?
This past Sunday, Brad shared a story, written by John, about a time when Jesus lost many followers. Many people who "believed" in Jesus walked away. Jesus shared that He is the bread of life, and through Him nobody will ever thirst again.
This story can be found in John 6:53-54, "53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day."
The communities response to this?
"66Â From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him (John 6:66)."
Jesus then turns to His 12 disciples, the teenagers that He had personally called to follow Him, and asks if they are going to leave as well. Their response?
"Simon Peter answered him, "Lord to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God (John 6:68-69)."
There is something powerful happening in this story. Jesus shares that living for Him takes sacrifice. Jesus shares that His way is not the easy way. In doing so, many deserted Him.
I shall ask this question one last time for the person in the back... Do You Believe?
Do you believe that this Jesus guy was more concerned about the sick than the healthy? Do you believe that Jesus is for you, not against you?
Do you?
We challenge you to take these three next steps to prepare your heart for the message this week:
Next Steps:
1) Wrestle with this question: Do you truly believe that Jesus is who Jesus says He is?
2) Spend one minute praying for somebody who is far from Jesus.
3) Read John 4 to prepare your heart for the message this week.
Join us Sunday morning at 9:00 and 10:30 for Revolution.
